STAR Communities’ mission is to help cities and counties to set a clear path for sustainability with helpful tools that measure and track progress towards meaningful results that save money and improve communities. To aid communities in this path, we offer a variety of services and technical assistance options.
We regularly hold educational trainings and webinars to support communities and partners. Upcoming trainings and webinars can be found on our events page, and past programs can be found on our webinars page.
For communities that are ready to pursue certification, we offer several in-person training programs. The Leadership STAR Community Program is our premiere technical assistance option. This one-year all-inclusive program runs once a year, starting in September, and provides STAR’s highest level of training and technical assistance to a cohort of city and county governments as they complete their first baseline community sustainability assessment.
The Leadership Program begins with a two-day, in-person orientation and training for two representatives from each community. The cohort meets quarterly throughout the year to report progress and share best practices. Each Leadership Community receives a dedicated STAR liaison who will check-in monthly via conference call and help to resolve issues and provide feedback and support. Verification and all STAR tools and resources are included in the program.
For communities that would prefer to start at a different time of the year, STAR offers the QuickSTARt program. Instead of working towards certification as part of a cohort, communities in the QuickSTARt Program receive an upfront, multi-day workshop in the community to build buy-in and support for sustainability efforts, clarify and resolve numerous technical and data issues, and provide a clear pathway to achieving STAR certification.
Finally, STAR also offers a variety of post-certification services for certified communities, including PR and communications support, custom reporting, and in-community sustainability workshops.
